Re: Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza / Catholic Healthcare International March 25, 2010
Dear Spiritual Children and Friends of Padre Pio,

The Risen Christ bless you with His peace!

The ‘Work of Padre Pio’, the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza (House for the Relief of Suffering), has offered quality care to numerous patients since its inception in the 1950’s. Padre Pio saw the Casa as a place where the whole person could be treated in his/her moment of physical and spiritual vulnerability. Both body and spirit must be treated for a more effective care of the patient. The whole person must be treated for a more effective care and cure.

It is a great pleasure for me to inform all of you that the leadership of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza has signed a formal Collaboration Agreement with Catholic Healthcare International to open Casa’s in the United States and other areas around the world. This is an exciting initiative that will be able to bring Padre Pio’s mission of Relief of Suffering to countless people in need, and establish ‘Cathedrals of Love’ in which dedicated Catholic doctors and healthcare workers can extend Jesus’ healing touch to those suffering in all corners of the world.

It was my pleasure to meet and speak with Mr. Palazzolo, President of Catholic Healthcare International, and his wife here at our Friary in Wilmington. As matters seem to move along at a quick and positive pace, I am confident that Padre Pio and God’s providential hand are guiding this effort. Along with Mr. Palazzolo, his leadership team at Catholic Healthcare International, and Dott. Domenico Crupi and his team at Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza, have entered this agreement with the blessing of the Holy See. In the name of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza and Catholic Healthcare International, I thank you in advance for your prayers and support. We will keep the Prayer Groups informed of developments as they occur.

As a militia of prayer, the Prayer Groups of Padre Pio storm heaven every day. You know the power of prayer, and have seen its effects in your own lives. I would encourage all of you to add this wonderful initiative to your daily prayer intentions. As Padre Pio said, Never grow weary of praying. This is essential. Prayer penetrates the heart of God and obtains the graces needed … Without prayer, our House for the Relief of Suffering is somewhat like a plant without air and sun.

May God bless you; our Lady guide, guard, and protect you; and Padre Pio watch over you, his spiritual children, with loving care, and bless this initiative that seeks to spread the charism of the House for the Relief of Suffering to others.

Peace and Blessings
