Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
The following quotes of Padre Pio are taken from various letters Padre Pio wrote to his spiritual children. These few words, from many, gathered here, remind us not only of the deep love and devotion of Padre Pio to Our Lady, but also of the love and devotion we should have, not only as Catholics but also as Spiritual children of our spiritual Father for so great a Mother as Mary the Mother of Christ and of the Church.
1 The Lord refuses nothing (asked) … through the hands of our heavenly Mother. 2 The Mother of Christ and our Mother … obtain for you from her Son every heavenly blessing. 3 Do not forget to pray with lively confidence to our heavenly Mother. 4 Place yourself in the powerful intercession of the most holy Virgin … that she protect you in time of temptation. 5 Offer everything to God through the merits of Jesus and His and our Mother.
6 Be persistent in praying to Jesus and His most holy Mother. 7 Give thanks to God and our Mother (Mamma) for graces received. 8 Knock loudly at the Hearts of Jesus and Mary (for whatever you need). 9 Jesus and Mary possess your spirit totally. 10 The Virgin Mary obtain strength and courage for you to fight the good fight (of virtue) . 11 The Mother of Jesus and our Mother obtain strength for you to win the battles God permits to come your way. 12 May Mary smile upon all the events of your life.
13 Praise God and the Virgin Mother for all the graces you have received. 14 Jesus and Mary assist you in everything always. 15 Praise to the Immaculate Virgin Mary … in whom I trust … to defeat the evil one. 16 The Immaculate Virgin is pleased with the gifts you offer her through my hands… 17 When you are troubled in spirit, say: Praise be Jesus! Praise be Mary Immaculate! 18 Always reflect upon the humility of the great Mother of God. 19 When Mary became the Mother of God, her humility compelled her to call herself the servant of the Lord.
20 One thing is necessary, to be with Jesus, just as Mary and Joseph were. 21 May the Sorrowful Virgin (help) us to embrace the mystery of the cross … and be intoxicated with the sufferings of Jesus. 22 Jesus and Mary reign in your heart and help you grow in love 23 Consider what our heavenly Mother must have felt at the foot of the Cross … and the depth of Her love. 24 Jesus and Mary reign in your heart. 25 Go to Our Lady and pray for the needs of the Church. 26 Jesus and Mary, and His foster father (Joseph) assist and console you.
27 May She who was the first to live the Gospel fully… help us to follow Her example (of discipleship). 28 Jesus and Mary help you to feel the love that awaits you in eternity. 29 May the holy Virgin continue to obtain for you from the Lord the strength to persevere in love. 30 Never desist from entreating Jesus and Mary to help you (at all times, for anything in God’s Will). 31 I send all of you the blessing of our Mother (Mamma) and her most holy Son.

Prayers and Practices for the Month of Mary

Memorare

(adapted)

Remember,
O most compassionate Virgin Mary,
that never was it known,
that anyone who fled to your protection,
implored your assistance,
or sought your intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired with this confidence, I fly to you,
O virgin of virgins, my mother,
to you I come, before you I kneel,
sinful and sorrowful.
Mother of the Word Incarnate
(Assist me, that I may open my heart
to God’s Word, and, like you,
open my life to Christ,
that I may live with, in and for Jesus,
as you did.)
Despise not my request,
but in your clemency, hear and answer me.
Amen.

Thanksgiving to God for the gift of Mary

Father, all-powerful and ever-living God, we do well always and everywhere to give you thanks; we especially praise you and proclaim your glory for the gift you gave us in the Blessed Virgin Mary.

She received your Word in the purity of her heart, and, conceiving in her virgin womb, gave birth to our Savior and so nurtured the Church at its beginning.

She accepted God’s parting gift of love as she stood at the foot of the cross and so became the mother of all those who were brought to life through the death of her only Son.

She joined her prayers with those of the apostles, as together they awaited the coming of your Spirit, and so became the perfect pattern of the church at prayer.

Raised to the glory of heaven, she cares for the pilgrim Church with a mother’s love, following its progress homeward until the day of the Lord dawns in splendor.

And so we thank you eternal and ever-living Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for Mary our Mother, through whose almighty intercession we find our way more easily to you, who live forever.
Amen.

To Padre Pio
for Childlike Trust in Mary’s Intercession

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina, pray for me, that with your childlike confidence in Our Lady, I can say with you: thank you, Mary, my Mother, for the many graces I obtain through your almighty intercession. Pray for me that I always have strength sufficient to accept whatever burdens I am asked to bear each day. May I bear them hopefully with a joyful heart, knowing you are with me, encouraging and leading me ever closer to Jesus Your Son, Who lives with the Father and the Holy Spirit forever. Amen.
